Support That Grew With Her Family

When Claudia first connected with Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado’s Family Development Program, she was looking for support for her family.

What she found was an ongoing relationship with someone willing to listen, understand her family’s circumstances, and help connect them with resources as their needs changed.

Claudia and her children began working with Linda through the Family Development Program. From their first home visit, Linda took time to understand the family’s situation and identify opportunities that could help.

During the summer of 2025, Claudia’s two younger children were able to participate in swimming lessons. The opportunity was especially meaningful for one of her daughters, who has Down syndrome and had struggled with confidence around pools and enclosed spaces.

Claudia saw the classes make a significant difference in her daughter’s mobility, development, and comfort in the water.

The family’s needs were not limited to one area, however.

Claudia also received assistance with a rent payment. Soon afterward, an unexpected situation at work forced her to resign, creating additional stress and uncertainty for the family. During that difficult period, Linda continued checking in, offering guidance, and helping Claudia navigate the situation.

That relationship has continued.

As her daughter has entered adolescence and experienced behavioral challenges at school, Claudia has again had someone she can turn to for support as she works with teachers and advocates for her child.

“To this day, Linda continues to visit our home and stay in touch through phone calls, always checking in on the well-being of my family.”

For Claudia, Family Development has meant more than receiving help with one immediate need. It has meant having consistent support through different stages of her family’s life.

“I am very grateful for all the assistance my family has received through the Family Development program, and especially for Linda’s dedication, commitment, and continued care for my family and me.”

Claudia’s experience reflects what family-centered support can look like: listening first, responding to changing needs, and walking alongside families as they work toward greater stability and well-being.
