For a long time, Yahel’s life was shaped by a cycle that felt impossible to break. Struggling with addiction left her feeling disconnected from the woman, wife, and mother she wanted to be.

Recovery gave her the opportunity to begin again, but rebuilding her life also meant confronting old patterns and learning new ways to show up for her family. One important part of that journey was participating in Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado’s Nurturing Parenting classes.

Yahel describes entering the classroom as a humbling experience. For the first time, she was able to look honestly at how addiction had affected her parenting and relationships. Rather than leaving her focused on guilt, the program gave her practical tools to create something different, a home rooted in love, patience, stability, and connection.

Her husband remained an important source of support throughout the process. Together, they worked through the challenges of their past and became more intentional about the kind of family they wanted to build.

Today, Yahel says her home stands on a stronger foundation. Her days are centered around her family, her work, and creating a healthy environment where her son can thrive. She also hopes her experience can encourage others who may be struggling with similar challenges.

“We are not defined by our mistakes, but by the work we do to rise above them.”

Looking back, Yahel credits Catholic Charities not only with helping her strengthen her parenting skills, but with helping her reconnect with herself and her family.

“You didn’t just teach me how to parent; you helped me find my way back to my family and to myself.”

For Yahel and her family, Nurturing Parenting became one part of a much larger transformation, one built through recovery, commitment, support, and the decision to keep moving forward.
