A Path Towards Stability

Emergency Assistance helps individuals and families maintain access to essential household needs during times of financial hardship. Our team provides guidance on eligibility, required documents, and available assistance so households can take steps toward greater stability.

Who We Serve

Emergency Assistance serves households experiencing urgent financial instability. Depending on eligibility and available funding, assistance may be available for household utilities, rent, mortgage payments, and other essential needs.

What We Provide

Energy Assistance

Support may be available for qualifying home-energy expenses, including:

  • Electricity

  • Natural gas

  • Coal

  • Firewood

  • Kerosene

  • Propane

  • Oil

  • Pellets

Water Assistance

CARES assistance may be available to qualifying Pueblo Water customers with a past-due or delinquent water bill.

Rent and Mortgage Assistance

Limited rent or mortgage assistance may be available when funding permits. Please call the office to confirm current availability.

Low-Income Eyeglasses Assistance

Low-cost eyeglasses assistance may be available for eligible individuals. Please call the office to schedule an appointment and ask about current requirements.​

A $15 non-refundable fee applies, and a current prescription issued within the past two years is required.

Eligibility Requirements

Energy Outreach Colorado

Applicants must generally meet the following requirements:

  • Gross monthly household income must be at or below 80% of area median income

  • The bill must be for energy used at the applicant’s primary residence

  • The applicant must be responsible for paying the energy bill

  • If the applicant is not the account holder, they must be an authorized user or provide proof that they live at the residence

  • Assistance is subject to program limits and funding availability

  • ​Benefit available once every 12 months, through Catholic Charities, up to 5 times in a lifetime

CARES Water Assistance

Applicants must:

  • Receive water service through Pueblo Water

  • Be the account holder or an authorized user

  • Have a current Pueblo Water bill showing a past-due or delinquent balance

Documents You May Need

All Applicants

  • Completed Emergency Assistance application

  • Copy of the applicant’s valid photo ID

  • Household income documents

Mortgage Assistance

  • Current mortgage statement and payment coupon in the applicant’s name

Rent Assistance

  • Landlord Verification Form

  • Eviction notice or rental or lease agreement in the applicant’s name

  • Landlord W-9

Utility Assistance

  • Current utility statement in the applicant’s name

How to Apply

1. Call our office

Call 719-544-4233 to ask about eligibility, appointments, and current funding availability.

2. Gather your documents

Gather the required documents for the type of assistance you are requesting.

3. Complete your application

Complete and submit the Emergency Assistance application as directed by staff.

4. Complete the required class

If assistance is approved, a one-time financial education class is encouraged to complete the application process.

Where We Serve

Emergency Assistance is available to eligible households throughout the 29 counties served by the Diocese of Pueblo. Assistance availability and funding may vary by location.
